Support Earl Boyles Community Gardeners
Portland’s co-op groceries are joining forces to support the Earl Boyles Community Garden, which recently experienced major vandalism. We’ll be donating snacks for the clean up party this Saturday and produce for the gardeners, and are calling on fellow cooperators and gardeners from across the city to volunteer for the work party.
Here are the details:
Earl Boyles Community Garden Cleanup Work Party
Saturday, 8/22/09
10 AM to noon
SE 110th Ave & Francis St
To meet up with fellow co-op volunteers, meet at 9:50 at the intersection of SE 110th & Francis. Wear a co-op shirt if you have one!
Donations of produce, starts, and tools are welcome. Any extra produce will go to the nearby hunger relief agency.

Besides the food that people grow there, community gardens are so important for bringing people together and strengthening our social fabric. This could have happened to any of our gardens, so showing our solidarity and strength as a city-wide community will truly benefit and protect us all. See you there!

Harvest of the Month
Food Front is a happy supporter of the Harvest of the Month program. This pilot project is organized by Ecotrust Food and Farms in the Portland and Gervais school districts and brings an Oregon-grown produce item into the lunch rooms of every school in the districts twice a month.
In addition, the Local Lunch portion of the project is a once-a-month meal offered in the school cafeterias made exclusively from Oregon, Washington and Northern California products.
This program gives kids a taste of their own state and teaches about agriculture and seasonality. Ultimately, a successful year will build evidence for state-wide farm-to-school legislation in 2009.
Every month Food Front posts signage to highlight the featured local product and show our support for the program.
